When did you first hear about the Graduate Programme?
I have heard about through my study partner, who was actually a student assistant at BEC at the time.
What made you apply to the programme?
At that time I was just starting to work with IT part time (student assistant job) besides my studies and found it quite interesting and that actually grew my curiosity in trying to pursue a career within IT.
What was best about being a graduate at BEC?
The willingness in the organization to teach and spend time on a rookie, that really encouraged me to also take on more responsibilities as I felt it was truly accepted to ask all the “dumb” questions.
What has been the biggest challenge you have had to overcome as a graduate?
Always a tricky question when you must narrow it down to “the one”. For me I think it was the challenge around taking the stage, but it has also been the most rewarding. As it gave me a chance to grow and learn that I found it extremely rewarding to take the stage.
What advice do you have to applicants that are considering applying for the programme?
Just do it 😉 – feel free to reach out and ask questions, I will be more than willing to answer questions and I guess the same goes for all of you around the graduate program.
Can you describe your current leadership role?
I’m currently Program Director for Investment and trade and Program Director for Post Trade Harmonization.
What are the key responsibilities and challenges you face in this role?
Making sure that we accelerate our development on the investment universe and create a smoother experience for the end user. On Post trade (which is very compliance heavy, and probably not that “sexy” as the Speedboat) we work towards the sector deadlines on harmonizing our post trade setup.
How has your journey from the graduate program prepared you for leadership?
It was a great experience, as a got a lot of training and support, this gave me a great foundation to build upon in my BEC career.
What advice do you have to applicants that are hoping for similar to your career progression from graduate to leadership?
I did not actually pursue this, I just took what ever challenge that was thrown at me, and I think that’s something I would encourage everyone to do, you will get offered what some believe you have the potential to do and my experience you will also get the necessary support to grow, so be curious and humble and I truly believe opportunities will occur.
