Job Title: Graduate Project Engineer

Reporting to: Senior Project Manager

Business Unit: Substations

Role Purpose

The successful applicant will work under the guidance of experienced Engineers and Project Managers, gaining hands-on experience across civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines while developing the technical and leadership skills required for their future career.

Responsibilities & duties

Including but not limited to:

Site Engineering Support

• Supporting the development and implementation of planning, monitoring, and control tools to ensure efficient project execution.

• Tracking project progress and ensuring work is completed in line with quality standards, budget constraints, and deadlines, while helping to identify and mitigate risks early.

• Interfacing with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.

• Support site engineers with daily checks, quality inspections, and record keeping.

• Assist in compiling final records, inspection and test plans and as-built records.

Support the coordination of subcontractors, plant, and materials on site.

Safety, Health, Environment, Sustainability & Quality (SHESQ)

• Promote a strong safety culture in line with Omexom values and procedures.

• Participate in daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.

• Ensure all site activities comply with Omexom and client environmental and quality standards.

Report near misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions promptly.

Technical & Project Support

• Assist with the preparation of method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), and work packs.

• Work with design and project teams to resolve technical queries and ensure constructability.

Contribute to daily site diaries and progress reporting.

Learning & Development

• Gain experience across the full project lifecycle – from pre-construction and access planning through to commissioning and handover.

• Participate in internal training via the Omexom Institute or equivalent programmes.

Skills and Experience Required

Essential

• Undergraduate engineering student (NFQ Level 8, or equivalent).

• Strong interest in power transmission, infrastructure, or construction sectors.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

• Confident using and interpreting technical drawings.

• Good IT skills (i.e. MS Office, AutoCAD, or similar).

• Willingness to travel and work across remote project locations.

Desirable

• Relevant placement or site experience within utilities, renewables, or construction/infrastructure projects.

• Awareness of site safety requirements.

• Understanding of site documentation processes.

• Full ROI driving license and access to own vehicle.
