These 16 consulting firms provide the best chance of landing a strategy role

We recently launched an overview of the 20 best in-house strategy functions in Denmark. One of the interesting data points we saw from creating that overview was the ability to see what consulting firms provides the most employees to these internal strategy departments.

We know exit opportunities is often something which is neglected when it comes to evaluating a job opportunity. However, we often see graduates thinking about this when they look to take on a role. They might know that they want to be a consultant for 1-3 years to build the notorious toolbox, but then eventually venture out into more stable roles. We have created this overview to give an idea of what companies provide the best exit opportunities afterwards.

The data is based on the article we created here and highlights the background of the folks in the internal strategy teams. Whilst this data foundations is clearly not comprehensive enough to make conclusive decisions, we do believe that it provides some direction based on the real world data.

Top 5 companies most likely to get hired by internal strategy teams

  • The data is based on the article written here where the in-house strategy firms provided input into the backgrounds of the people they hired. It’s from this information we have the data.
  • The numbers for each of the consulting firms, shows the number of times an in-house strategy team mentioned that they had people from the named consulting firms. It’s not the absolute number of people employed with that background (ie if a department had 5 people from McKinsey, we would only note that down as 1 entry)
  • The data is based on 20 internal strategy teams. So if McKinsey has the score 12, it means that 12 of the companies have former McKinsey consultants in their team.
