From INSEAD to Novo Nordisk: Akshat Kharbanda’s journey of Growth, Challenge, and Opportunity

Novo Nordisk Graduate Programme

Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology

Intro to Akshat

I’m an International Operations Business Graduate at Novo Nordisk, currently on my third (and final, sigh) rotation in Obesity Marketing in London. Before this, I worked on Obesity Strategy in Copenhagen and Diabetes Marketing in Bangalore. My journey here started after a Master in Management at INSEAD, plus internships at Tata, KPMG, EY, and others.

Why did you decide to study at Insead?

It started with a bit of serendipity, but everything about INSEAD resonated with me. The dual-campus setup and the “business school for the world” vibe really drew me in. And the fast-paced and intense program matched my energy perfectly, so it all came together naturally.

Do you recommend MBAs to other students/young professionals?

Absolutely. The narrative that MBAs are outdated misses the point. They are about more than academics. The brand opens doors, the network connects you to incredible opportunities, and the experience of learning alongside brilliant people is life-changing. t’s an experience that pays dividends for a lifetime.

Why did you decide to join a graduate programme?

Such programs never let you get comfortable. You’re constantly changing geographies, functions, and roles. Just when you think you’ve mastered one, a new challenge keeps you on your toes. You embrace the chaos, learn relentlessly, and surprise even yourself. It’s the corporate world’s answer to adrenaline junkies 😉

What attracted you to Novo Nordisk in particular?

Funny story: I hadn’t even heard of Novo Nordisk until a Danish classmate mentioned them. Naturally, I got curious. The sheer impact of their work floored me. Obesity is quickly becoming one of the biggest global health challenges, and Novo Nordisk is tackling it head-on. Add to that their flat and respectful work culture, and I was completely sold.

How has it been to be a graduate at Novo Nordisk?

Honestly, it’s been a whirlwind in the best possible way. I’ve traveled to new places, worked on exciting projects, and met people who’ve become some of my closest friends. Oh, and did I mention the exciting projects? Graduates are given a LOT of responsibility here. Every day brings something fresh, and the learning curve keeps me engaged and energized. It’s an adventure I’m so glad I signed up for!

What is your best advice for other students who are finishing their studies?

Find balance. At INSEAD, life had four dimensions: Personal, Social, Academic, and Career. Initially, I focused on academics and social life, neglecting sleep and job hunting. Later, I shifted to personal and career, missing out on experiences and friendships. Eventually, I learned to balance all four by staying adaptable. Be honest with yourself about what matters most and adjust along the way.

How does one stand out in the applicant process?

You don’t. Trying to be something you’re not is easy to spot and rarely works. Instead, focus on putting your best foot forward. Be authentic, highlight your strengths, and show why you’re a great fit for the role (oh, and do your research about this). Genuine passion and confidence are what truly make an impression. The rest is confetti 🙂
