Marlene from KMD: Be curious and patient and you will learn a lot

Graduated as Cand.merc.MIB (Management of Innovation and Business) from CBS. No prior IT experience. Worked 3 years in GrowthWheel International (start-up). Is now a Business Consultant Graduate in KMD WorkZone, Ballerup.

How did you end up at the Graduate Programme / when and where did you first hear about it?

I learned about the graduate program through graduateships.com. I applied the day before the deadline and was called in a few weeks later. The whole recruitment process was very transparent and KMD was quick to get back to me regarding next steps. I also got to meet current graduates during the process who helped with answering some questions.

What attracted you to the company?

KMD is an interesting company because it consists of so many business units. The various locations around Denmark and the international mindset attracted me because it provides many opportunities for recent graduates. Additionally, the people I met throughout the recruiting process inspired me and made me want to work in an environment like KMD.

Why did you want to join a graduate program?

I was unsure of what the next step in my career should be since a cand.merc education is very broad. Furthermore, I wanted to be part of a young community with great growth and development opportunities, which is the reason I wanted to join a graduate program. Finally, the past two COVID years have made it even clearer to me how important it is, personally, to surround myself with young, ambitious, fun colleagues who can help me to become the best version of myself.

What has surprised you the most about working at the company?

I am surprised by the size of KMD and how different the business units operate. This means, that as a graduate, there are many opportunities if you do not end up in the right business unit from the start. Also, I am surprised by how flexible my working schedule is, and how much effort is put into the onboarding process. Further, it surprised me how friendly and helpful all KMD’ers are to new hires, despite having busy schedules. And finally, that the bike ride from Copenhagen is actually not that bad ????

Biggest challenge as a graduate so far?

Understanding where the business unit, I work in, belong in the value chain. KMD is a big company with many small sub-units and figuring out where I belong in the KMD-puzzle took me a while. But everyone in the company and around the graduate program was very helpful with answering my questions and guiding me through the process.

Advice to other applicants?

Be curious and patient. Come to the office and ask questions – everyone I met was happy to answer them or point me to someone who could answer them. Also, if you end up in a team which you might not think is a perfect fit – find your own way. Be patient and take responsibility for your own learning and development, there are many great people in KMD who want to help you in any way they can – but you must take active part in creating your own journey ????
