My name is Sofia Guendel Bueno, I hold a bachelor’s degree in international business and a master’s degree in agricultural and food economics. Before the program, I had previous work experience in the agricultural sector through internships in big corporations, as well as NGOs. After completing 3 rotations of the Growing into the Future program, I am now a permanent employee at KWS as a Project Coordinator for the Sugarbeet Business Unit Heads.
How did you end up at KWS?
I ended up at KWS by looking at different trainee programs in the industry and being the most interested in the Growing into the Future program. I liked the aspect of rotating in different departments, going abroad and having trainings throughout the program to develop yourself throughout the 2 years.
What attracted you to KWS as an employer?
KWS’ values really resonated with me since I hold similar values in my personal life. Also, I was inspired by the vision of the company and excited for the future growth of KWS. Now working for KWS has allowed me to see that the company values are not just something written on a website, but rather what we as employees live by through our work.
What has been the highlight of being a graduate at KWS so far?
As a graduate at KWS you get the opportunity to build a broad international network. By doing projects in different departments, you get to work together with a variety of people and get to know the company from different perspectives. Also, by leading your own projects you gain confidence throughout the program and learn how to become a better leader.
What has surprised you the most about working at KWS?
The openness and familiarity within the company. There is a common respect among colleagues regardless of seniority and I felt very welcomed from the very first day. The work of the graduates feels and is valuable for the success of KWS, which makes work incredibly purposeful.
The company values are not just something written on a website, but rather what we as employees live by through our work.
Biggest challenge as a graduate so far?
The biggest challenge as a graduate is the amount of learning that happens simultaneously. Within the first 6 months you are going through trainings, getting to know the company, embarking on your new project and team all at the same time. While this was the biggest challenge, it led to great growth throughout the program.
What is your superpower?
My superpower is being an effective communicator. I believe one of my strengths is being able to connect with people, conceptualize information and share it with others.
Advice to other applicants?
My advice to other applicants is to understand how the company values fit to you personally and with that in mind, go into the process with curiosity, an open mind and willingness to collaborate with others.
How do you see your future with KWS?
Just as we say at KWS “Make yourself grow”, I see making myself grow by developing further skills in the company and growing together with KWS. In my current role I am learning a lot and have been given many opportunities to work on interesting projects and with different people, which inspires me to continue to do so in the future with the hope to become a great leader and help others grow as well.
