WSA Graduate Wutong: My superpower is the ability to quickly acquire unfamiliar knowledge.

Intro to Wutong

Wutong Xia is a Global Graduate at WSA, coming after 6-year education program in International Business & Marketing, across Denmark, China, Australia, and the US. Within Denmark, she has studied at CBS and SDU, focusing on Data-Driven Marketing and international business strategies. She has worked as a Project Manager and Branding Coordinator in China, before pursuing her passion in the health-tech industry here in Denmark. Outside work, you can find her reading a good self-development book, cooking a new Asian recipe, or painting her favorite morning sky outside her home in Hellerup.

How did you end up at the Graduate Program?

I have always wanted to work in a company that provides a dynamic social impact, to make a positive difference in the lives of people in a socially responsible company.

During the CBS Graduate Day, I have seen a lot of companies presenting their graduate programs, however, looking back at the highlights of many of them, it was WSA that caught my interest immediately. That is because it had both a strong development plan, as well as a purpose which is worth giving your best for!

What attracted you to the program?

When I was about to finish my MSc, I wanted to combine the learning from my Global studies in China, Australia, the USA, and Denmark and bring them into an international company, which would give back to society while, at the same time, providing me with a platform to find and explore my career.

Studying International Business, Marketing, and Data Science has provided me with a data-driven business understanding, but I felt the need for gaining more industry experience. That is exactly why WSA’s cross-functional Global Graduate Program was particularly suitable for young professionals who are still exploring their strengths and building a comprehensive growth strategy, as I have come to discover.

What has surprised you the most about working at the company?

The serious commitment of WSA to provide the best hearing-care service, as well as the high level of recognition of our values by all colleagues throughout the company. As the largest manufacturer of hearing aids, we are committed to making them more accessible. One way of approaching this challenge is to work in a strategic partnership with Sony to develop OTC (over-the-counter), self-fitting hearing aids in the US.

This news was announced when I had just joined WSA for one month, which impressed me and made me very proud.

How do you see your future with the company?

I am very much looking forward to my future here, and I see a very strong match and balance between the various rotations.

I am currently in my first rotation in Global Marketing, where I am supporting our 10+ markets and providing rich Consumer Insight, which will provide the basis for my next rotation in the Global Strategy department. The last rotation in Global Finance will provide a holistic perspective on the portfolio side of our projects, and then I will probably transition into a role linked to my specialty and roots, which is related to making data-driven business decisions.

Reflect on what is most important to you, when developing yourself professionally and personally, because you will only get a sense of achievement and happiness from your career if you find the job which best suits your interests and recognizes your value.

What is your “Superpower” / what are you really good at?

As a curious person by nature, my superpower is the ability to learn across disciplines and quickly acquire unfamiliar knowledge.

This has not only helped me with my interdisciplinary studies but has also enabled me to adapt quickly to the fast pace of the Graduate Program.

Another superpower I gained throughout my life in 4 countries is Cultural Intelligence and the communication skills that come with it, which help me to act as a bridge in a cross-cultural context.

Any advice for new applications?

To all of you who wish to apply, I would say that personal reflection and an understanding of self are very important. Reflect on what is most important to you, when developing yourself professionally and personally, because you will only get a sense of achievement and happiness from your career if you find the job which best suits your interests and recognizes your value.
