Your Early Careers Program

The ‘One Commercial’ early careers programme represents bp’s commercial ambitions across entities globally.

The capabilities and exposure provided via the programme position commercial early careers at the heart of bp’s strategy – providing resilient hydrocarbons, growing convenience & mobility and unlocking low carbon energy.

The ‘One Commercial’ programme gives you a breadth of opportunity to build your commercial skills and experiences which will allow you to understand the complete commercial value chain across bp. The commercial discipline is integral to achieve bp’s ambitions to provide reliable, affordable and lower carbon energy to the world and achieve net-zero.

As a Commercial graduate at bp you will complete 3 different 12 months rotations within these 2 businesses/ functions: Customer and Products and Gas and Low Carbon Energy.

CUSTOMER AND PRODUCTS

C&P One Commercial early careers complete rotations across our C&P businesses and gain experiences and exposure to our Customer Offer, Commercial Acumen and Customer Facing or Commercial Operations. For example, you could have a rotation role in Sales and Marketing, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Retail Operations, Strategic Planning or Competitor Intelligence.

GAS AND LOW CARBON ENERGY

G&LCE advances low carbon energy solutions for people and our planet by reimagining our gas and low carbon energy businesses. Over the course of your assignment, you’ll have the opportunity to work in teams that are building and growing low and zero carbon businesses and markets, driving new decarbonization technologies and capabilities and maximizing performance and value of our gas businesses.

Early Careers Experience at bp

Our graduate programs are 3 years. During this time, you’ll have the opportunity to complete 2 or 3 rotations designed to give you breadth of experience across your chosen business area whilst also supporting you to build technical depth. These rotations will be complemented by a technical development pathway for your discipline, which outlines the technical competencies you are working towards. Alongside this you’ll also complete our Ignite training modules which will support you to build your interpersonal skills.

Throughout the program you’ll have a dedicated support network to provide guidance on the program and advice on career development. You’ll also be a key part of the bp early careers community, with events, socials and the opportunity to network with other early careers from across bp.

Role and Responsibilities

The roles and responsibilities across these businesses are varied. The precise nature of your role will be defined by your skills as well as the needs of the business. As a ‘One Commercial’ graduate, you might be:

  • Helping to respond to our customers’ needs and to dynamic markets
  • Building relationships with our external partners, collaborating across functions, segments and teams to deliver excellence
  • Working on projects and supporting your team to find the best solutions
  • Helping to make the best use of our assets and investments
  • Helping to maintain performance within your team and for bp as a company
  • Working across different parts of the energy value chain
  • Assisting in finding viable business models for decarbonisation and the energy transition
  • Partnering and working across bp entities to deliver integrated solutions

As part of bp, you will also be able to take part in additional activities outside of your role, whether it be supporting local community initiatives or our bp Business Resourcing Groups and you are given the encouragement and time to participate.

Requirements

To apply for this role, you will need to be in your final year of study and be on track for a 2:1or have completed your degree with a 2:1. All degree backgrounds are welcome.

For this role you are expected to have strong spoken and written English language skills, including business and technical English. Language skills will be assessed throughout the recruitment process.

Reward

Starting Salary: £37,100 per annum

Sign on Bonus: £3,000 (one off payment, subject to tax and national insurance)

Wellbeing Allowance: Claim up to £1,500 each calendar year (subject to tax and national insurance) for products and services that contribute to physical, mental, financial and social wellbeing

Flexible Benefits: In addition to your base salary, you’ll receive a flexible allowance (currently 20% of your base salary) that you can take as cash or use to buy a range of extra benefits, such as a pension, critical illness, dental care, personal accident and travel insurance, and our cycle to work scheme.

Private Medical Insurance: We’ll pay for private healthcare, and you only pay an income tax charge.

BP Share Plans: You can choose to take part in our share plan and buy bp shares every month.
