Your role as a Trainee – Strategic Business Controller BA C&S

Business Area (BA) Customers & Solutions is a leading customer company supplying a wide range of energy solutions and services to private and business customers. We are there to help our customers to power their lives in ever climate smarter ways and live free from fossil fuel within one generation. BA Customer & Solutions is fully committed to grow the commodity business in our existing markets (Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden), to develop, operate, maintain and optimize the full value chain of heating and cooling networks and efficient heat and power production to serve customers and society with reliable heat and electricity, to gain a significant market share in decentral solutions such as PV (solar), heat pumps or batteries, to be a leading provider of charging solutions for E-mobility in Northwestern Europe, and to build significant customer bases in new markets (Denmark, France, United Kingdom).

The BA Business Control department is, amongst others, responsible for supporting the Business Area with suitable steering models, business analyses and financial management information, in close cooperation with the management team of the BA and controlling departments of the business units. In order to drive, coordinate and execute the financial processes, a strong cooperation with the operational departments and staff functions (like Group Finance, HR, Asset Management, Business Development and Procurement) is necessary. This contributes to a dynamic and diversified working environment.

As Business Controller BA C&S you will be responsible to develop and support BA C&S in relation to all finance and controlling related matters by acting as a financial business partner. Next to driving regular reporting and forecasting as well as business planning, you secure a good consolidation of different business unit related information. Being strong in cooperation between business and staff functions, you contribute to a dynamic and diversified working environment.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Steer the business planning process including target setting, follow-up through reporting with a focus on the gaps between realization and targets, forecasting and corrective measures to meet plan;
  • Secure well consolidated financial information on BA level, consider the underlying drivers of the different business and provide high quality on BA level;
  • Provide departments and managers within the BA with relevant reliable financial information, business analysis and proactively support and challenge your colleagues to reach business objectives;
  • Support the controlling team in analyzing business performance, identifying improvement opportunities and corrective actions and driving performance;
  • Drive and support digitalization initiatives as well as further development of finance processes and products;
  • Participate in the monthly management reporting process.

 

Your profile

Your qualifications as a Trainee – Strategic Business Controller:   

  • A master degree in Finance or Business Administration (or equal); 
  • Native-level proficiency in the language of the country you work in (The Netherlands, Germany or Sweden).

You should also recognize yourself in:

  • Strong financial and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work in large and complex organizations and to manage internal and external stakeholders effectively;
  • Strong commitment on continuous personal and business improvement;
  • Pro-active and transparent;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across international cultures;
  • Strong team player.

To be considered for our traineeship, you should:    

  • Be a recent graduate with an academic degree or expected graduation before March 2025;   
  • Have maximum one year of work experience;
  • Be fluent in English. Skills in other languages can be a merit;    
  • Be willing to relocate for possible assignments throughout the organization;    
  • Identify with our principles: active, open, positive and safety.
