Before I joined Ørsted, I studied Mathematical Modelling at the Technical University of Denmark, which is where I also did my bachelor. During my studies, I was lucky to spend a semester abroad studying in Singapore.
How did you end up at the Ørsted Global Graduate Programme?
When I was looking for a job after I graduated, I decided that I wanted to join a graduate programme because of the learning opportunity and the opportunity to build a network. I saw on LinkedIn that Ørsted had some really interesting positions and applied for them.
What attracted you to Ørsted?
Before I joined Ørsted, I knew it was a company that’s sharp on best practises and new technologies. I was also eager to join a company with sustainability and employee satisfaction high on its agenda.
Ørsted also has a large IT organisation and several analytics departments, which gives me a lot of possibilities during my rotations and my time as a graduate.
Why did you want to join a graduate program?
After I graduated, I wasn’t completely sure what direction to take. When I heard about being a graduate, and how you get to try out different departments and roles, I knew immediately that it was something I wanted to do. I also saw it as an exciting way to accelerate my career.
What has surprised you the most about working at Ørsted?
It’s how talented people are and how committed everyone working here is! In all of the three departments where I’ve worked so far, I’ve met incredibly talented and dedicated co-workers. We care deeply about the quality of the work we do. This means that you’ll be able to learn from the best and at the same time there are high standards, which requires that you do your best and keep challenging yourself.
You should apply for the Ørsted graduate programme if you’re eager to accelerate your career and network, and if you’re not afraid of a steep learning curve.
Biggest challenge as a graduate so far?
That’s definitely been COVID and the restrictions it has brought. A month after I started my graduate programme, the second wave of COVID hit Denmark, making it much more difficult to meet up with colleagues and other graduates. But I also believe that because of it, we’ve had an increased focus on how we could still work well together and keep the important social interactions. I’m happy to say that I have built a strong network within the company.
The Ørsted graduate programme is designed to maximise your learning, which for most people means that when you feel you’ve started to settle into your current department, it’s time to rotate and learn something new, which can be quite demanding at times.
Advice to other applicants?
You should apply for the Ørsted graduate programme if you’re eager to accelerate your career and network, and if you’re not afraid of a steep learning curve. It will require a lot of effort from your side, but you’ll have great support along the way. You’ll meet up regularly with the other graduates who are in the programme, and you’ll have a buddy from the year above and a mentor to guide you. So if this sounds appealing to you, my advice would be to go ahead and apply straight away.
How do you see your future with Ørsted?
I see myself continuing to work within analytics. I’ve already got a strong foundation in the company and I’m certain that I’ll continue to develop professionally and take on new, cool challenges.
