How did you end up at the Graduate Programme / when and where did you first hear about it?
After my master I got a job where I had to work as a project manager, but I have always been sure that I wanted to work within Human Resources, so when I saw the Graduate Programme at Lidl Denmark had a Human Resource track, I had to send an application.

During my masters at Aarhus BSS, I had seen and heard about Lidl Denmark and their job opportunities such as the Graduate Programme. When I applied to the job, I had seen the job advertisement at LinkedIn.
What attracted you to the company?
I think Lidl Denmark is an attractive company because they have expanded so much during the last couple of years in Denmark. It is also an interesting company due to the international perspective. In addition to that, I only had a limited knowledge within Lidl’s industry, but I was very curious to learn more!
Why did you want to join a graduate program?
First, due to the Human Resource track – it is not so many Graduate Programme where you choose what track you want to be in. I saw it as a great opportunity to learn more about the projects within Human Resource.
Secondly, I really think the rotation in the stores from Store Assistant to District Manager (the long sales rotation) is a great chance to gain a whole bunch of Lidl knowledge. You will get to know how the stores operates and bring it back to your work as project manager in the headquarter.
Thirdly, the international job rotation. It is a great chance to get to know a new language and culture and to get to work closely with the international colleagues. You will also be placed in a department in Lidl International that makes sense based on the department you are attached to in Denmark, which means that your international network in the company also becomes greater.
What has surprised you the most about working at the company?
I think what has surprised me the most is how thorough the Graduate Programme was planned. I have learned so much about Lidl’s Supply Chain when I had the rotation in the stores. The Journey from the Store Assistant to the District Manager was filled with so much learning about the everyday life in Lidl, the processes and the culture. Moreover, the knowledge from the international rotation brings so much value. You learn about how Lidl is functioned in an international perspective and about the background of the processes that are in the Lidl Countries.
So, all in all am I very surprised about how much deep knowledge you can gain during the Graduate Programme in Lidl!
I think Lidl Denmark is an attractive company because they have expanded so much during the last couple of years in Denmark.
Biggest challenge as a graduate so far?
My biggest challenge that has also become a great strength is to be thrown in deep water, but the good thing about Lidl is that you also learn how to swim. The opportunity to live in another country is amazing, but to learn how to navigate in a new language and culture can sometimes be rough. The language school was good, but also challenging – though the outcome when you are done is the best feeling. To be able to go into the Lidl International Headquarter and speak and understand your colleagues is a success, and worth all the hard work.
Advice to other applicants?
Go into a Graduate Programme with an open mind and be curious about the different colleagues you meet on your way. The Graduate Programme gives you an opportunity to grow professionally but also personally, as long as you take it.
