My name is Emil, a Supply Chain Graduate at Carlsberg Denmark, having joined in September 2023. Originally from northern Denmark, I pursued my master’s degree in engineering (Biotechnology) at Aalborg University. I am currently in my first rotation of three, where I am currently immersed in the Utilities and Energy department, specifically focusing on reducing our greenhouse gas footprint, water consumption, waste, and other environmental tasks. This has primarily been based at our large brewery in Fredericia, Denmark. For my next rotation, I’ll be diving into the commercial area of Carlsberg, a facet I wouldn’t typically explore in a non-graduate position, providing me with more insight into the entire value chain of the company.

How did you end up at the Carlsberg Danmark Graduate Programme?

An acquaintance introduced me to graduate programmes, from which I was intrigued by their structure and the potential to swiftly gain substantial responsibility and experience across the entire supply chain. Drawing from my study job, where I discovered a passion for working with team-lead and management, this opportunity aligned perfectly with advancing quickly in that. The rotational nature of the programme particularly appealed to me, as I was uncertain about the specific field I wanted to pursue.

What attracted you to Carlsberg Danmark as an employer?

At first, I was drawn by the company’s culture and rich history, but what ultimately convinced me to choose Carlsberg over other graduate positions I was offered, was their genuine interest in employees. How they focused on well-being, work-life balance, and employee development. Furthermore, the large size of the company presents many development areas and career opportunities.

What has been the highlight of being a graduate at Carlsberg Danmark so far?

My main highlight has been the strong sense of community and the network I’ve joined through the programme. Currently, we have approximately 40 graduates from all over the world, situated in different departments and locations. This setup allows for a rich exchange of knowledge and mutual support. The onboarding process was particularly enjoyable as all of us graduates were collectively introduced to Carlsberg, swiftly cultivating a sense of community among us.

Another highlight is the numerous social events, both among fellow graduates and within the broader Carlsberg community, which play a crucial role in strengthening relationships among us and enhancing collaboration.

Just be yourself – Carlsberg isn’t looking for a specific type of candidate; they want all kinds of people with different personalities and professional backgrounds.

What has surprised you the most about working at Carlsberg Danmark?

I was pleasantly surprised by the early responsibility and ownership I was given, driven by discussions with my manager about my aspirations. The genuine interest in new employees was also notable—during my first month, I had introductions to all departments by their respective managers, expanding my network and understanding of the supply chain.

Another surprising aspect is Carlsberg’s commitment to graduate development, exhibited through mentorship from department heads and the VP of Carlsberg Denmark, along with investment in graduate development workshops.

Biggest challenge as a Supply Chain Graduate so far?

The most significant challenge for me is navigating the complexity of working in a large company, figuring out which departments and individuals to approach for information and assistance. However, it’s also quite rewarding as it opens numerous opportunities to collaborate across diverse fields and engage with various people. Another challenge is the limited time available to get introduced to work tasks, before transitioning to the next rotation, especially as some tasks involve a steep learning curve. Yet, this fast-paced nature is precisely why I applied for the graduate programme, as this provides the chance to gain experience quickly.

Advice to other applicants?

Just be yourself – Carlsberg isn’t looking for a specific type of candidate; they want all kinds of people with different personalities and professional backgrounds. Figure out what excites you about working at Carlsberg, how you can contribute, and what you hope to gain from the graduate programme. This alignment will achieve the best possible fit between you and Carlsberg.

How do you see your future with Carlsberg?

After my 2-year graduate programme, I expect to transition into a full-time position at Carlsberg Denmark. The exact position will be determined based on available opportunities, my preferences, and my professional profile. However, the experiences shared by previous graduates indicate that opportunities are plentiful.
